Artist Statement
As an artist, Grace likes to use acrylics to capture the mood and nuances of everyday life. Her work in the bereavement field has propelled her to create work that affirms the consistent, positive details that are often overlooked in one's hectic, sometimes overwhelming life. She has enjoyed capturing many of these moments in the scenery and people of South Jersey.
Artist Biography
Grace Zambelli is a NJ Licensed Psychologist and an Art Therapist who has keen interest in art, psychology and helping others. Over the past thirty years, she has melded a professional career and a personal life that have combined these passions. Starting with BA degree from the College of New Jersey in Art Therapy and Psychology, she has used art to develop art therapy programs to help bereaved children and their families cope with death and loss. Grace also has a Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology from Seton Hall University. She has authored numerous articles and several training manuals about the use of art and creative methods to positively facilitate the grieving process. Art making as therapeutic modality has been a primary way for her to work with children in private practice.
Every artist needs a day job and Grace currently channels her creative energies in her work as a school psychologist at Shepard Schools in Morristown, NJ. She also serves as the Public Relations Chair for the New Jersey Art Therapy Association.
Grace has studied at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Bedminster and the Visual Arts Center in Summit, NJ. Her work has been displayed in juried and members show at both centers.
Her painting "Leonard's Prize" received an honorable mention at the Visual Arts Center. Her paintings have been accepted in the annual juried show at the Ocean City Cultural Arts Center. She received an honorable mention for her painting "Baywatch in Ventnor" at one of OC juried shows. Her work was also featured at the Watchung Arts Center where four of her paintings were accepted in the juried show featuring "People Doing Things." Recently she received a special award for her painting "Soaking Up The Sun" at the annual Visual Arts Center member's show. She is also a member of the Ocean City Fine Arts League and received the top prize for her painting "Doing AC" for the Jersey Strong exhibit in 2013. Grace was accepted as an Associate Artist (emerging artist) at the Noyes Museum in 2013.
