Alexis’ tree print paintings and stained panels come together through assembling several pieces of color and shape into one concept. The tree print paintings are created by printing cross sections of fallen trees, leaves, flowers, and other elements of nature. Then, using a blend of acrylic and watercolor paints, she develops these prints into paintings telling stories. These tree print paintings have sold in galleries, art shows and markets in South Jersey, and have been commissioned. They are also included in juried exhibits and shows in New Jersey and Connecticut. Alexis' stained glass panels have sold in galleries in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, in addition to being created as commissions.
Alexis built her art-making skills through formal instruction in classroom settings and informal painting and stained glass sessions. The desire to continually learn more was part of her original career as a middle school teacher for fifteen years, during which she applied her Master’s of Education to create activities with artistic components for students. She sees nature art as a way for people to learn about the world around them so they can be active stewards of it. Alexis still teaches today and facilitates Wild Grown Art Workshops for children and adults in Cape May and Atlantic Counties.
