I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and attended Philadelphia Public Schools where
I majored in art in high school. I was interested in art from an early age, often preferring to play with my crayons
and paints than the other kids. After graduating from high school, I attended the Tyler School of Art where I majored
in painting and minored in jewelry making. I also took credits towards a teaching degree to be assured of a dreaded
paying job after graduation. Upon graduation, I recieved BFA plus a teaching certificate.
Shortly thereafter I took a position teaching art in the Philadelphia Public Schools where I taught for 35 years,
with Northeast High School as my final destination. I also taught evening school for a semester to adults through
Community College of Philadelphia.
My first love is painting in oils, although I have explored many different mediums including egg tempura and encaustic painting.
I recently started painting with chalk pastels and enjoy the immediacy of the medium. I like to take everyday scenes and,
through the use of color, elevate them to a higher level. I believe there is nosuch things as colors that don't go together.
I enjoy using complementary colors to enhance my art, as well as juxtaposing dark and light colors.
I started painting actively again about 10 years ago with OCFAL's Wanda Kline who was a very inspirational teacher.
Three of my paintings were accepted into the Ocean City Community Center juried art show a few years ago.
I also recieved a first prize in painting in a juried show in Hammonton, New Jersey. I hope that this is the beginning
of my rebirth as an artist and that the viewing public enjoys the work as much as I have enjoyed the creative process.
