Visit Steve's work at: Steve Lewis Art
Steve Lewis, who was born and raised in Dividing Creek, NJ, began oil painting while studying with Elsie Donaghay as a child. Under the tutelage of Judith Scull at Bridgeton High School, he learned new drawing and painting techniques that were used to develop a body of work used to apply to art colleges. Lewis received a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and an MFA at Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA. During his undergraduate studies, he did a Junior Year Abroad at Reading University in Reading, England. Lewis traveled through Europe, which was a life changing experience and eventually led him to settle down in Leipzig, Germany. There he has ongoing exhibitions and teaches art at the Leipzig International School.
In recent years Lewis' paintings have become less abstract and more figurative. Much of the work has to do with childhood memories and stems from thoughts and associations of places in America. This reconnection to his past has encouraged him to begin exhibiting in New Jersey. Lewis has become a member of the OCFAL, SNJA, RRCA and Gallery 50. A series of small paintings and drawings are being produced to participate in their exhibitions. His website is www.stevelewisart.com and his Facebook page is Steve Lewis Visual Art.
